Marine Vessel (M/V) Thomas A. Baum has been a workhorse for the North Carolina Ferry System since the mid-1990’s. She current sits at the Ferry Terminal in Havelock, North Carolina awaiting her new owner. The Baum was replaced by the Rodanthe which provides for slightly more vehicles and passengers.
The Baum is prepared to provide reliable service to her new owner. In 2018 she underwent a USCG Hull Examination and cleared satisfactory. The hull plating was replaced at that time along with the shafts and propellers being pulled. In 2012 the pilot house electronics and navigation aids were updated and tested.
This is a must see and buy. The engine room is “spotless” and well maintained. We encourage all interested parties to be at the port to inspect the vessel at 10:00 am and to participate in the auction starting at 2:00 pm.
**This vessel has maintained US Coast Guard (USCG) compliance. It has a current Certificate of Documentation. Certificate of Inspection has lapsed due to being past the credit dry-dock.

Iron Horse Auction Company, Inc. makes no representations or warranties, expressed or implied, concerning the items being sold. Descriptions of the items are believed to be correct, but are not guaranteed. It is the Buyer’s responsibility to conduct any inspections prior to the auction. All due diligence periods end the date the auction is scheduled to end and prior to the end of the auction. It is possible that the property being sold is subject to local, state and federal regulatory authorities and it is the Buyer’s responsibility to ascertain if they are subject to regulation and permitting. Iron Horse Auction Company, Inc. has attempted to find or locate all information deemed material facts. Ultimately, it is the Buyer’s responsibility to inspect all aspects of the items before placing a bid. No sale shall be invalidated by the Buyer as a result of he/she not conducting their own inspection prior to placing a bid or doing due diligence. It is automatically acknowledged by placing a bid that you have personally inspected the property, hired an agent to inspect the property, or waived your right to inspect the property.

All property is sold "As is" and "Where is" with “All Faults” and “No Warranty, Written or Implied”.
There will be a (9.5%) Buyer’s Premium added to the final bid price to determine the final contract purchase price. If you plan to pay with cash or certified funds please let our office know before this auction ends so we will not charge the credit card on file. Sales tax applies to all non-titled items. If you have a tax ID number please get that information to [email protected] before the conclusion of this auction.
Bidders are invited to and should inspect property of interest prior to submitting bids. Reasonable opportunity will be afforded for inspection up to the opening of the live auction, but the state will not furnish labor or materials for such purposes.
The successful bidder is to assume all liability for the property after the auction. The State will exercise its usual care for protection up to the time of removal, but will not be held responsible for any loss or damage to the property after the auction.
The Agency reserves the right to reject any or all bids. The Agency reserves the right to withdraw any property at any time prior to an award. Iron Horse are acting as agents for the seller and at no time acting on behalf of the buyer.
The description of property offered for sale has been compiled from available data, and there is no guarantee or warranty on the part of the Agency as to number, condition, or quality of property offered. Refunds or adjustments will not be made for property not coming up to the standard expected by the bidder, nor will failure to inspect the property be considered grounds for a claim. Verbal comments by custodians concerning the condition of property are not considered by the Agency nor will they be grounds for disputing an award of property. Descriptions that are provided by Iron Horse Auction Company, Inc. are provided in good faith and are matters of opinion. It is automatically acknowledged by registering that you have either personally inspected the items being sold, hire an agent to inspect the items being sold or waive your right to inspect the items being sold.
Photographs and descriptions are provided solely for the purpose of aiding the bidder to identify items of interest. In no way should they be used in making a determination of quality or condition.
If bidding online, please check your bid for accuracy prior to submitting. A bid for the item cannot be edited or withdrawn by the bidder during the time the property is available on bid. Iron Horse Auction Company, Inc. Online Auctions are timed events and all bidding will begin to close at a specified time. Iron Horse Auction Company, Inc. online auctions also have an auto-extend feature. Any bid placed in the final five minutes for an auction item will automatically add 5 minutes to the time the bid was placed. Example: If an auction item is scheduled to close at 3:00 and receives a bid at 2:56, the close time will automatically extend to 3:05. The auto-extend feature will continue until there is a five-minute period without a bid being placed in the auction.
In the event that the auto-extend time needs to be decreased, Iron Horse Auction Company, Inc. may decrease the extended time amount at any time during the auction until the close of bidding. Bidders will be notified prior to time reduction by a Pop-Up Message and the Instant Message Center on the bidding page.
During this auction process there is a chance that you will be over bid. At that time you will receive an Outbid notification. Until the auction begins to close, the bidding software will notify bidders by email when they have been outbid. Bidders may also find out if they have been outbid by refreshing the individual lot information. Due to varying internet connections/speed, sometimes email notifications can be delayed. We are not responsible for the failure of any part of the bidding process or internet bidding.
In the event that there are technical difficulties related to the server, software or any other online auction-related technologies, Iron Horse Auction Company, Inc., MarkNet Alliance and the Seller reserves the right to extend bidding, continue the bidding, or close the bidding. Neither the company providing the software nor Iron Horse Auction Company, Inc., MarkNet Alliance or the Seller shall be held responsible for a missed bid or the failure of the software to function properly for any reason. The Agency and the Auction Firm have the right to amend this Agreement at any time by posting the amended terms on the Auction Firm’s website. Unless otherwise stated, all amended terms shall be effective immediately.
By registering and submitting a bid you have entered into a legal and binding contract with the NC State Surplus Property Agency; hereafter referred to as the Agency. You have agreed to abide by all of the Terms and Conditions of Sale as stated herein.
By submitting a bid, I certify that I am 18 years old or older; that all bidder information is accurate and I agree with the Instructions, the Terms and Conditions of Sale, Payment Terms, and terms for property removal. I have made myself familiar with the property being sold and understand that I was afforded an opportunity to inspect the items I am placing bids for; I waive any claims against the Agency and Auction Firm based upon any defects in property I am placing a bid for; and I agree to submit payment for all items I am awarded and that it is my responsibility to meet all deadlines for payment and removal of property.
The identity of all Bidders will be verified. Bidding rights are provisional, and if complete verification is not possible, Iron Horse Auction Company, Inc. will reject the registration, and bidding activity will be terminated. The Seller and Iron Horse Auction Company, Inc. reserve the right to refuse service to any person who we feel to be fraudulent.
Bidder responsibilities include but are not limited to: Bidders agree to keep their username and password confidential, as they are responsible for any and all activity involving their account. When using the website, you must obey any and all local, state, and federal laws. Violations will result in termination of website use privileges. We gather aggregate information from the website, which may include but is not limited to: the number of page visitors, most visited pages, and any and all correspondence.
PAYMENT TERMS

Payment for auction items must be made up to three (3) business days from the day of the sale. The Auction Firm will accept payment by any commercially reasonable manner. The Auction Firm will not charge a credit card surcharge on the final bid.
No partial payments will be accepted on an invoice. All invoices must be paid in full within 3 business days from auction award date and time.
All payments must be in the form of cashier's check, certified check, credit card (Mastercard/Visa), money order or wire. Payment must be received at the Auction Firm or made online and all property must be removed in accordance with the Terms and Conditions unless otherwise noted in the Special Terms and Conditions listed within the Description of the item being sold.
Payments made in the form of a cashier’s check, certified check or money order must have the invoice number(s) to be paid referenced on the payment.
Payments will not be accepted for awarded property at any site other than the auction location or online.
No property may be removed by the successful bidder prior to full payment of the invoiced amount being received.

For a person(s) or business to pick-up items on your behalf when you are unable to pick-up awarded item(s), the person or business picking-up the item(s) must bring a completed "Notarized Authorization" form completed by you, notarized and a photo ID that matches the information supplied on the authorization. A new authorization form is required for each individual person or business you are authorizing to pick up on your behalf. Should a Blanket Authorization no longer be valid, it is the purchaser's responsibility to notify the State Surplus Property Agency to have the name or business removed from your account.
We cannot accept forms notarized by a notary outside of the United States unless it is authenticated for use in the United States by the US Embassy or Consulate.
All titles and any accompanying paperwork will be completed with information supplied by you when you registered and/or placed your bid. Titles are required to be completed in the name of the winning bidder.
If the person/company awarded property fails to pay for the property prior to the time indicated, the property purchased will be promptly re-sold in such a manner as the Agency may elect and the bidder charged with the loss to the State, if any, together with all expenses of the sale. If the person/company awarded property does not remove the property purchased prior to the allowed time, the Agency reserves the right to resell the property a second time with no refund of any money to the person/company failing to remove the property before the deadline.
